The Quad ERA-1 incorporates an ultra-thin, electrically active diaphragm which is extremely thin, but yet just as strong and as highly elastic, weighing less than the air it displaces. This is fused with a precisely arranged magnet array, designed to maximise sensitivity and consistency of the applied force over the driver area.

Quad has invented a nonlinear vibration dampening technology which allows the driver to offer an effortless but a pure dynamic frequency response for perfect clarity and an engaging sound. The ERA 1's are supplied with 2 pairs of different earpads, made out of genuine leather and synthetic leather, for slightly different acoustics; what Quad has done is tuned these headphones to match their evolutionary famous ESL range of loudspeakers.

Who is Quad?

Quad is a highly renowned manufacturer of quality hifi electronics and loudspeakers, having developed award-winning audiophile-standard products standard for over 80 years, their highly acclaimed reputation is well-earned. The company originally built speakers for public address, moving onto domestic hifi following the end of the war. The first commercially available products were the Quad 22 Pre-amp and Quad II Monoblock Power Amplifiers, both of which were on the market for ten years to great success. The new Quad ERA 1 is the first planar magnetic headphones from Quad. These headphones will offer the customer a frequency range of 10 to 40k Hertz.
