Elac BS 253 Standmount/Bookshelf Loudspeakers-Black High Gloss

A bookshelf speaker that wants to be seen: The BS 253 is the compact speaker system which deliberately attracts attention. Available in finishes of black and white high-gloss.

The BS 253 from Elac is designed to crave and dwell in attention. The compact bookshelf/standmount speaker design is available in either an impacting black and an elegant white high gloss finish and looks as sophisticated as it sounds. 

The speakers manifest themselves in a modest and delicately sized cabinet, which measures a tiny H: 285mm x W: 170 x D: 232 and have a weight of only 5.3kg each. 

The BS 253 borrows its concept some of its technology from the BS 243, with improvements and upgrades on the 150mm-diameter AS-XR (which stands for aluminium sandwich extended range, a philosophy that can be found in a number of the newe Elac speaker ranges), 'Crystal Membrane' coned-bass/midrange driver, as well as more advanced magnetically-shielded version of Elac's famous JET III tweeter. 

The grilles of the cabinets can now be attached and detached freely using magnets, as opposed to the peg/plug design found in earlier models. The speakers were originally going to only be available in Germany from authorised Elac retailers, but due to to an extremely positive showing at the Berlin Audio Fair, demand was so high internationally that Elac made the decision to release the BS 253s worldwide.

The sensitivity of the BS 253 is 87dBSPL for a 2.38V input, while the nominal impedance of the unit is around 4 ohms, with a minimum of 3.4 ohms. The frequency response of the speakers has been confirmed by IEC 268-5 standards as being '42Hz to 50kHz'.
